What it is

Paddleboard yoga — sometimes called SUP yoga — is exactly what it sounds like: a yoga class taught on a stand-up paddleboard, on the water, usually under a Colorado-blue sky.

It’s harder than yoga on land. It’s also more fun. The board moves with the water, which means your body has to make small adjustments you’d never have to make in a studio — and that’s the whole point. You’ll engage muscles you forgot you had, laugh more than you expected, and probably fall in at least once.

Come up breathing and laughing. We’ll help you get back on your board.

What to expect

Sessions run about 90 minutes. Most are one-on-one — just you and Dawnell — which means real attention, real instruction, and a pace that’s actually yours. Small group sessions (3–5 participants) are available too, and great for friend groups looking for a shared experience.

We start on land, get comfortable on the boards in shallow water, and build from there. The pace is gentle, the vibe is friendly, and modifications are offered for every pose.

You don’t need to be flexible. You don’t need to be a yogi. You need to be able to swim, willing to wobble, and curious enough to show up.

Who it’s for

  • First-timers who’ve always wanted to try.
  • Experienced yogis looking for something different.
  • Active folks who want a workout that doesn’t feel like a workout.
  • Anyone who likes water, sunshine, and the occasional unexpected splash.

What you’ll need

  • Workout clothes or swimwear — Something you don’t mind getting wet.
  • A towel
  • Sunscreen — Colorado sun is no joke, even when the water keeps you cool.
  • Appropriate footwear — For getting to and from the water.
  • A paddleboard — Bring your own or rent one in advance.
  • A personal flotation device (PFD) — Inflatable belt or life jacket. Required for every session, every participant. If you don’t have one, we can help you sort it out before you arrive.
  • A parking pass — If the session is at a state park (most are). Bring your own or purchase at the entrance.

A note on safety

Dawnell is a Certified Personal Trainer and 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, with eight years as a Registered Nurse behind her. She takes the safety part seriously so you can take the play part seriously.

You’ll need to be comfortable swimming. If you have an injury or health condition, talk to your physician first and reach out so we can chat in advance.

Every participant signs a liability waiver before their first session.

Where and when

Sessions take place at lakes and reservoirs around Northern Colorado — locations vary by season, weather, and water conditions. Each session on the schedule lists its meeting spot, parking details, and any session-specific gear.
